I've had this Darkstar for several years now. It's produced many pups, but I've only kept one and it turned out the same. One pup I gave away is growing like a normal Alocasia, so it's definitely something I'm doing.

My best guess is I've been repotting too soon. Any thoughts?

P.S. Also, it usually has a few more leaves, but she got a little stressed during a lengthy move.

The base looks very elongated, as if it’s reaching for the sunlight in the window. Definitely needs more light, since it is a bigger alocasia. Also, I don’t recommend repotting until it settles into its new home with more light.

I made [**this guide**](https://imgur.com/a/zsEqOHI) for another Redditor a while back…

In nature an older alocasia would toppled over on to the ground and continue growing, “crawling” along the surface of the ground. Its “trunk” would have rooted (from nodes on the side touching the soil) and sent up new shoots (from the nodes on the sides/top) .

As a houseplant, however, the plant will eventually become top heavy and potentially snap the “trunk”, unless it’s supported.

The best way to manage an Alocasia once it’s grown a trunk like this it to “chop & prop” (kinda like an etiolated succulent…)

Jewel Alocasia don’t grow like this.
