Work to create a new community garden in Burnham-On-Sea is set to begin this week with the planting of the first tree at Crosses Pen, the green space beside the Manor Gardens.
Volunteers from the Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Green Tean Charitable Incorporated Organisation will be joined by Somerset Council Leader Bill Revans on Saturday May 9th at 10.30am to officially launch the project, which we first featured here in April.
A spokesperson said that interest is already strong, with 20 people signed up to help bring the garden to life.
The new space, being created by the Burnham and Highbridge Green Team, aims to offer a welcoming place where residents can come together to enjoy gardening as well as a peaceful retreat for those seeking somewhere quiet to relax.

The new garden will be managed by the community and is set to include raised beds, benches, fruit trees, hedges, water butts, a compost heap and a small shed.
Regular working days are planned throughout May as volunteers begin shaping the site.
The group is appealing for sponsors to help provide benches and two raised beds suitable for wheelchair users, and is welcoming more volunteers to join the working days. Anyone interested in taking part or supporting the project can email bandhgreenteam@gmail.com.
The Green Team, a volunteer-led charity, works to encourage community efforts to protect nature, reduce waste and respond to climate change.
