Jennifer Garner is definitely one of the more relatable celebrities out there. She’s just as likely to be photographed in her garden as she is on a red carpet — in fact, she has quite the impressive collection of gardening overalls in her wardrobe.
These green ones featured on her Instagram? They’re the Heirloom Gardening Bib Overalls from Duluth Trading Co. — a pair that’s beloved by gardeners of all ages. After seeing the 54-year-old actress looking incredibly cute in them, I was finally convinced to try them out for myself — and boy, am I glad that I did!
They’ve quickly become my favorite outfit for gardening, farming, and working in the yard, and I’ve been raving about them to anyone who will listen. Here’s why.
Inspired by Jennifer Garner, I got a pair of these popular gardening overalls — and now I wear them at least three times per week.
What I like about themThey’re wildly comfortable
I’ve worn lots of different overalls while gardening and tending my farm, but they often leave something to be desired. Denim overalls are often too stiff, making it hard to bend over, while fabric overalls get dirty too quickly. However, as soon as I wore the Duluth overalls for the first time, I was an immediate convert.
These gardening overalls are made from a ripstop nylon fabric that’s both impressively durable and perfectly stretchy. I can reach, twist, and bend in them with no resistance, and dirt basically just falls right off them, even when I’ve been kneeling in the dirt. (And then the overalls do get dirty, you can just throw them in the wash.) I also love the shoulder straps — they’re adjustable and elastic for a comfortable fit, and the clasps stay securely in place all day long.
Some reviewers note that the fabric of these overalls is thinner than expected, but I think they’re the perfect weight. On cool spring days, I layer them over leggings for added warmth, but then when it’s hot out, I can wear them on their own without sweating. The brand also has a short version or overall dress if you want to work on your tan while out in the yard.

My overalls don’t match my tractor like Jennifer’s — but I think they still look good.
(AOL / Camryn Rabideau)They have more pockets than you could ever need
I bring so many things with me when I head out to the garden. I often find myself toting around my gloves, clippers, trowel, seed packets, a Sharpie, and my phone, at the very least. I used to throw them all into my gardening hod, but with these amazing overalls, there’s room for all my essentials — and more!
I actually counted, and there are a whopping 12 different pockets on the Duluth overalls, many of which have special purposes. You’ve got your classic side and butt pockets, a designated phone pocket, plus a pruner loop on one side for tools. There are also cargo pockets, pencil slots, and even a loop for sunglasses. Not to mention slots where you can insert knee pads, if desired! Basically, you’ll be a walking tool box with plenty of space for all your must-have gardening supplies.
They come in so many colors and patterns
Whether your style is simple and timeless or bold and vibrant, these overalls come in a color or pattern to suit your tastes. There are currently five solid color options — including purple, green, blue, black, and a rusty red — as well as five seasonal patterns for a more eye-catching look.
Personally, I opted for the basic green option, but I often see people rocking the new poppy print on social media! The brand also generally launches new patterns each year, so you can keep expanding your collection with fun new prints.

The overalls come in so many different colors and patterns — I really like the green butterfly print!
A few things to keep in mindThey’re a bit pricey
Ok, let’s face it: $110 is definitely on the more expensive side for a pair of overalls (especially since they’re made from synthetic materials). However, after trying them out for myself, I would genuinely buy myself a second pair, because they really are superior in design and construction compared to a lot of other gardening gear.
Duluth also runs regular sales events where you can snag the overalls for less. Right now, the solid colors are marked down to $80, and the prints are $87. However, I’ve seen them up to 50% off during the off-season, so if you don’t want to pay full price, definitely keep an eye out during the winter months.
They run large
Before you buy, you may want to check the brand’s sizing chart. Many reviewers say that the overalls run large, so if you’re in between sizes, it’s a good idea to size down.
The good news, however, is that the overalls come in a wide range of sizes, ranging from XXS to 3X, and there are even multiple inseam lengths. The brand also offers free size exchanges, so you can easily swap for a better fit.
What the reviews say
Who wore it better?! Just kidding, don’t answer that.
Jennifer Garner and I aren’t the only ones who love these gardening overalls — they currently have more than 3,500 reviews and an average rating of 4.7 stars. Spoiler alert: People are pretty much obsessed with them.
“The overalls are well-made and durable. They are lightweight and comfortable, AND the pockets are a dream come true,” raves one happy buyer. “There is nothing lacking in this wearable tool. I take off my work clothes and slip this on, and I am transformed.”
“These are life-changing!” proclaims another shopper. “Coworkers had recommended for a couple years (I work in landscaping), and I was skeptical. But these are so comfortable! So many pockets, quick dry, and they keep me cool, which was my biggest concern as someone who sweats a lot in the warmer months.”
The design is a hit with all ages, too: “These overalls fit perfectly, has a great print and fabric, and I enjoy discovering its many pockets and features. I am new to wearing overalls and have received lots of compliments, even at age 78!”
After several months of use in the garden and around my farm, I’m fully sold on these gardening overalls, and while they are pricey, I think they’re worth the expense if you’re looking for a comfy and highly functional outfit for working outdoors.
