The First Monday of May is officially upon us, which means celebs are mere minutes away from walking the 2026 Met Gala red carpet. Traditionally, the carpet cascades down the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and is covered by tents as it’s set up. But photographers just released the first images of this year’s set up (ahead of celebs arriving) and it’s pretty spectacular—with flowers hanging from the ceiling and a white carpet with green details. In other words, it’s giving garden.
For the past three years, the Met Gala red carpet has been manufactured by an Indian company called Neytt. In 2023 (their second time making the carpet), they toldVogue India, “As a company, we lay a lot of emphasis on sustainability. All the water that gets used in the dying process is treated and recycled back. We have an effluent treatment plant where the water treatment takes place. The final comes into a small tank. Also, we grow fish in the small tank to make sure that the treated water is clean. We are extremely proud and happy to make a rug for the Met Gala for the second time in a row. Seeing the designs at first, we didn’t think they would come out well– changing from the traditional red colour of the red carpet to a beige tone. Being a brand from Kerala, we got to do this. It’s a proud moment for all Indians. We are also happy to know that we have something to present on the international stage.”
