A beautiful perennial garden starts with a good design plan. In this video, I’m breaking down perennial garden design step by step so you can create continuous color from spring through fall. I’m also sharing how one of my own garden beds went from a simple bed of groundcover to a full, layered perennial border with more structure, seasonal interest, and blooms throughout the growing season.

Sometimes a garden doesn’t need more plants. It needs a better plan.

In this video, you’ll learn:
– How to design a perennial garden for continuous color
– What to look for when a garden feels flat or unbalanced
– How I improved bloom timing and flow in this bed
– Why structure, repetition, and plant placement matter
– How to build a garden that looks better as it fills in

This is the same approach I use in my own Zone 6 garden to create borders that feel full, layered, and in bloom all season long.

  1. Thank you for the video! Can you recommend sun loving perennials? I live in south jersey. Right now I have three peonies bushes and one hosta. I have four other plants but can’t think of their names. Thank you!

  2. If you love plants as much as I do, my new book Filling Your Home with Life just released — it's everything you need to style your home with confidence. Link in description! 🌿

  3. Looks beautiful! Have you worked much with euphorbia? I have a tiny garden and that (euphorbia robbiae) has been a great contrast plant for me.
