This is a dracaena plant that I got from a dear friend after he passed away. It thrived for years before it just started dying, and I did everything I could to try to save it.

I’m trying to propagate the only thing left of it, and the water method is turning the tip brown (this was overnight)

Is there any salvaging him?? It’s the only thing I own that is this important to me and I’m devastated

(Water is slightly brown because I added a little plant food to it. I put it in the water yesterday mid morning)

I do have rooting gel coming today thinking maybe the soil approach would be my last Hail Mary?

Cut the brown as little as you can until you hit solid stem. Let it callous over. Then put in clean water. I have not had enough experience with rooting hormone to advise. I do use it but not enough to tell. Give it enough light and be patient. Sorry for your loss.

Eta, make sure the water covers the stem. Also let it callous overnight.
