I tried to inject some love to the lemon tree on my rental property… it was way too tall, dying at the apical point, being smothered by agapanthus, hosting citrus gall wasp and had something else boring into its trunk. .
Poor guy needed some space to breathe.
I cleared away some branches, removed the agapanthus, composted, seasol-ed, gave him a thorough water and finished with some mulch.
It’s had an autumn rush of new lemons growing, but today… I come out to discover some Mica caps (?) growing at the base, who google tells me love rotting hard wood.
Is the end nigh?

Well it grew out to seek the sun and that area of mushroom growth seems to be permanently in shade and moist?
The yield and health of the lemons looks good… Hard to say… Could do with a trim after the season over..

Moisture + bark chips = fungal bloom.
Lemon tree is fine
Its not looking great, but it may be a slow thing. My advice would be to keep it small so that if it does suddenly snap, it won’t be doing too much damage to the things around it. I would reduce the canopy a bit more (no higher than the second level of the house) and keep an eye on the trunk
I had the same fungi appear at the base of a tree a very long time before it came down in a windstorm. The tree looked ok but the middle of the trunk had rotted out. The fungi stayed around for a long time after the stump was removed, probably feeding off the roots.
Looks like Saprophytic fungi not Parasitic. Tree looks fine based on images you have provided.
