I feel like it’s gigantic compared to the original pot but I’m not sure. It’s finally growing new leaves so I don’t want to push it.

Generally, the average rule of thumb for pots is 2 inches wider than the previous. This looks like an appropriate upgrade to me.
Yes it is too big. It should be max 2″ bigger than the existing root ball.
