I found a mutated dandelion!


I was just taking a walk picking flowers when I noticed this. Probably my coolest find ever!

    Yep, fasciation. A harmless mutation that happens to a lot of plants. It’s caused by damage to the plant’s meristem (growing tip) from all sorts of things, like insects, sub-zero temperatures or simply genetics.

    When I was a kid and we found a massive dandelion (not necessary a fasciated one), we would make trumpets out of it: take off the flower, and peel the stem slightly in 4-5 bits, so it curls down – then blow through it. It makes a funny sound 🙂
