Yep, fasciation. A harmless mutation that happens to a lot of plants. It’s caused by damage to the plant’s meristem (growing tip) from all sorts of things, like insects, sub-zero temperatures or simply genetics.
When I was a kid and we found a massive dandelion (not necessary a fasciated one), we would make trumpets out of it: take off the flower, and peel the stem slightly in 4-5 bits, so it curls down – then blow through it. It makes a funny sound 🙂

I posted a pic like this it was removed by some mod for being “too common” or some such shit. I happen to like seeing oddities. Thank you for posting this!
