Editing to add this is the US Pacific Northwest and I’m in zone 8b

A couple of days ago I commented on a post where the OP was mulling about putting some raised beds in front of their house, and how they would be the first to do so in their neighborhood.

I mentioned it’s pretty normal in my area, and wanted to share what people have done specifically in the front of their house within 3 blocks of me.

I’m no expert, and am not saying any of this is best practice. Just posting to show what people start doing when it’s not radical to step away from tradition.

Something I should add is that I live just within the boundary of an old smelter plume where we are encouraged to use new soil to grow anything for consumption due to high arsenic levels. I suspect this has helped normalize raised beds in my community.

What a lovely community to live in. Thanks for sharing! Hope it inspires others to do the same. I’m working on adding more to our front yard, I have raised beds on the side near the front of our house and that feels bold to do in our ‘perfect grass lawn’ neighborhood. Thank goodness we aren’t in an HOA

I aspire to be at these levels
