Moved it away from the fence, I'm okay with the wood siding breaking down on this. Its much taller, I layered it browns, greens, browns, greens x4 total using mainly yard waste as greens, and obviously I peed in it. Thoughts?
I’ve been here long enough to know that the answer is always “pee on it”

Good system! Also takes some time to heat up too.

I’m using a trash can with holes and am dealing with the same issue. We don’t have a lot of greens, so can’t really fill it, just adding some at a time. Just turned it today and even though it hasn’t been really warm I’ve got plenty of life in there and and some of it’s turning into a really nice brown… but it smells like crap. Literally. Not pungent, but I could smell it on my hand after. I put rabbit pellets in there sometimes, but not enough I’d think it would do that

More mass.

Make it bigger.
Generally, a 3x3x3 (1 yd^3) is recommended for proper heating.

I’ve heard it can take 3-6 months to begin to see progress and depends on sun and general heat. Being in buffalo myself I anticipate it to get hot enough to make progress in September just in time for it to get cold again
