I don’t have experience propagating this specific tree, but often woody cuttings rot before they root. Usually rooting hormone is recommended for a higher chance at success.

This kind of cutting will rot in water. You need a sterile rooting medium that will retain some moisture, but also drain well. Try a perlite and vermiculite mix.

You can try leca. You fill the water just below the cutting & the leca wicks the water up without rotting it. Never tried it but got some a few weeks ago to try

Hi. Not OP, but indeed all of my tests prop for pine rotted in water. There’s one in soil now that has been green for a few months so we shall see! Thanks for all the comments, I’ll try those too
