Got a well-known weed puller. Am doing 50-100 per day. Got clover and violets and am trying to support pollinators, but there are too many dandelions for me.
…and you think dandelions do not support pollinators?

Dandelions are edible, good for pollinators, and great for soil health! You can do better!

Dandelions crowd out natives trying to grow. They crowd out violets and clover. They are not anything to aspire to. A lawn of violets is far superior to a lawn of dandelions. And you won’t get violets if you let dandelions take over.

As long as you don’t spray, which I am assuming bc you’re here, toss those in the fridge and reach out to a cottontail rehabber near you! They will be eternally grateful bc dandelion greens are the GOAT when we’re weaning buns and, nm day, having someone drop off a load of them would honestly make my whole season. That much food I don’t need to buy or hand harvest myself? You’d honestly be my favorite person.

I’m impressed with your weed puller skills. I bought one last year and haven’t opened it to figure it out yet. 😅 We have red clay and dandelions just cling to it! Even trying to dig them up, I almost always end up snapping the top and falling down before I get the actual root out. 🤣 You’ve inspired me!

What’s the weed puller and how well does it work for you?

Each to their own! I grew dandelions from seed and planted extra out this year!

I use a garden knife so I’m down close enough to hear them scream.

I’m gonna have to one up you on that. The amount of overflowing wheelbarrows, I think, is about 6. I started early. Didn’t use the green lawn service in back this year because I want to overseed with clover and natives, so the dandelions are living their best lives. 😱

You need a couple of bags of soil to fill all these holes

My front lawn is still mostly woodchips but the dandelions appear to love the challenge so there are hundreds of them. I dig them up with a regular shovel while I’m digging up my hellstrip. I can see the difference but I’m sure all my neighbors see is a yard full of dandelions still. And they’re super tall. Like, 15 inches. I will prevail.

Of course do what you want for your yard, but dandelions are still great for early waking bees as their first source of pollen in spring. They also are great at assisting needing lawns due to their healing properties. I read that they appear in spots where the soil is needing something more (amended).
