Air layered and now new leaf is dying

I air layered and chopped my philodendron glorious and while all the big leaves acclimated (and one little one I lost has new growth), the top leaf that was coming in when i chopped is definitely dead right? What do i do with it? Will new growth now no longer come from the top of that stem? What’s my next step here? lol
