During the April meeting of the Flowertown Garden Club, longtime member Faye Campbell was named a Garden Club of South Carolina “ Garden Hero.” She received a framed certificate, a colorful bouquet and a standing ovation from club members. The statewide “Gardener Magazine” featured her with a full-page article in its spring edition.
This honor recognized Campbell’s exceptional service to the club and to the community. She has served on the Town of Summerville’s Tree Protection Board for 12 years and was a “guiding light” for initiating South Carolina Arbor Day in the town. The Arbor Day celebration each December is a collaboration between the Flowertown Garden Club and the Town that started in 1986. She has chaired this effort ever since.
Campbell served as president of the local club in 2003-2004. Years before, she led the Greenville Council of Garden Clubs. During her tenure, that club purchased and renovated the historic Kilgore-Lewis House and achieved its recognition on the National Historic Register.
As an active member of Bethany UMC, Campbell has created floral arrangements for special occasions, including the annual Thanksgiving Cornucopia and the tablescape for the “Living Last Supper” production.
“Faye Campbell’s leadership, dedication and encouragement have made her an inspiration for the club and for the town,” according to a statement from the club.
