I was removing wire and broke a branch of my Chinese Elm, plus cambium came all the way off around the break. Should I try to graft it back in place or aiayer it? (I have never tried grafting or airlayering and don’t have the materials to do it rn)

I’d expect you will lose that branch looking at the damage, possible an air layer would work but I wouldn’t try.

I think when you’re removing wire that’s been on this long and bitten heavily into the tree it’s best to cut it off in small sections rather than trying to undwind it to minimise that sort of damage.

Make a flush cut, it will heal and probably issue new buds. Try to root the cutting. Wire in the late autumn and keep an eye on the tree as spring arrives the plant grows rapidly and wire scarring becomes an issue.
