Laura Manson, from Flaurals, was the guest at an open meeting held by Wick and District Gardening Club in the Pulteney Centre.

She created a selection of four floral displays using a basket covered in bark, some small glass jars for table displays and a hand-tied bouquet.

Laura, a floral designer in Caithness, is an advocate for sustainability and using materials which are compostable or recyclable. She uses no Oasis to set her displays but instead a “nest” of multi-headed flowers, such as goldenrod, to set the main feature flowers in place.

A club spokesperson said: “Watching her work was inspiring and very entertaining as she kept everyone transfixed with her nimble fingers and her wonderful stories.”

More information about Laura’s work can be found on Facebook at Flaurals or by calling 07826 206268.

Carol Grant gave a vote of thanks on behalf of everyone. All of the displays that Laura created, along with other plants and displays she had brought with her, were included in the raffle – to the delight of the many winners.

The club’s next meeting is a trip to the Westfield garden centre on Friday, May 15, leaving Wick at 11am.
