Like most families, we enjoy being outside when the weather is nice enough and that involves having some comfy seats to relax in. Finding ourselves fighting over the one comfy chair we had, it was time for a little garden upgrade. That’s when we started looking at egg chairs.

They’ve become a popular choice over recent years and loads of retailers sell their own version. But one that stood out, for its price and positive reviews was the Online Home Shop Double Hanging Egg Chair, reduced from £305 to £250.

Designed to seat two, the Online Home Shop Double Hanging Egg Chair features a large seat cushion and two supportive head cushions, promising ‘the ultimate relaxation experience for yourself and a friend’. One problem that usually comes with garden furniture is where to store it when it’s not in use, but the beauty of this thing is that it’s foldable, and collapses down so that it’s fully flat.

I was worried that the ‘foldable’ aspect would make it a little flimsy, but it’s actually very sturdy – something reviewers have also commented on – with thick chains at the top of it to attach it to the poles.

Assembling it took a little longer than hoped, with my husband commenting that the instructions could be a little clearer, so that’s worth pointing out if you struggle with assembly. But I left him grumbling with it and it was put together in under an hour.

We got the grey one with cushions to match. You can get a natural coloured rattan frame with cream cushions, but we didn’t trust that around the kids and dog. That said, the material does seem easy to clean with a damp sponge and the cushions themselves are really comfortable. It’s handy to have the smaller ones behind your head for some added comfort.

It's a really sturdy chair

It does fit two people, but it’s also a really nice space to have to yourself, tucking yourself into the ‘cosy cocoon’ while it sways in the breeze.

The OHS chair is also available at the likes of B&Q and Amazon, where one reviewer said: “Beautiful and sturdy egg chair. Very pleasing to look at and even more so to lie down!”

Another commented: “We are so happy to have this swing. Bought is yesterday. It’s gorgeous, got so many compliments from all family members straight away. Very easy to assemble. All parts were labelled clearly. Instructions were simple and easy. My wife assemble it within 30 mins. Very comfortable seating. Added more style in our home. Must recommend it. Strong and sturdy too.”

One did say they didn’t receive all the pieces, adding: “A shame as it looks a beautiful chair.”

As well as the double chair, OHS also sells a single Foldable Hanging Egg Chair, reduced from £158 to £120 and available in grey, cream or natural.

Elsewhere and you can pick up the Living and Home 2-Seater Outdoor Hanging Egg Chair with a huge reduction at Debenhams. Normally £302.99, it’s down to £182.01 for a limited time.

Alternatively Dunelm has reduced its Sydney Rope Folding Egg Chair from £199 to £124, with the rope detailing and neutral colourway promising to ‘create a calming, modern aesthetic’.

And the egg chair isn’t the only thing proving popular at OHS right now.

We also decided to invest in the Bali Outdoor Rocking Chair, priced £130. Shaped similar to the egg chair on the seat, it’s just as comfortable, with a gentle rocking movement to add a new element of relaxation.

This one was a doddle to put together, taking less than half an hour, and again it’s a really sturdy frame that looks like it will survive all weathers.

It’s funny how the old comfy chair has taken a backseat now that we’ve got these new additions to enjoy. It’s the comfort and style our garden so desperately needed. Even if we are now fighting over who’s sitting where!
