May is one of the most important planting windows of the year, but what you can still plant depends on your climate, your season length, and how hot your summer gets. In this video, I’ll walk through the best vegetables, herbs, and flowers to plant in May so you can make the most of the season.

Filmed this in my previous garden, but the May planting timing is exactly the same I’m a bit under the weather this week, so I wanted to make sure you still had this in time.

  1. please change title to "what to plant in zone X before its too late" I don't like guessing where a gardner is. my frost date is loooong gone

  2. Another thing you can do for squash is to change to Zucchino Rampicante and give it something to climb. They are more resistant to the bugs.

  3. I love to plant bush beans in greenstalk planters. You can fill each pocket with 3 plants and depending on if you get an original or leaf planter that’s 30-42 pockets, or 90-126 plants in just a couple square feet of space.

  4. I live in SE Alaska, a temperate Rainforest. We are having a very late Spring. Without a greenhouse type set up, not much will grow right now. We have only manged to hit 50°F a handful of times so far. We don't get actual hot weather here0, tho most people in this town will complain at 70°F. But then in the winter you see kids out in hoodies at 20°F…

I am excited my radishes and turnips are up!

  5. Great video, Brian! Only one thing I have a question about is that I've heard not to wash the dirt off sweet potatoes just after harvesting?

  6. Here in 9b it's almost too late already! I have to hang so much shade cloth and I have to rush to get plants established before it's hot enough to fry everything.

  7. Hey Brian! Great video! I heard that you can stop corn silk worms by putting a drop of food grade Mineral Oil in the center of the silk. Do you know if that's true?

  8. Huge squash slices thick and grill over the fire. Rub with olive oil, season and grill until dark on both sides. Even blackened. Cut the seeds out and parch them.

  9. Take those green ones at the end of the season and put them in a paper bag with a banana. It ripens them well.

  10. I grow watermelon in the Northern PNW and it is grown the easiest to make work here in grow bags. You just need to stay on top of the watering to make it work after you carefully transplant them outside.
