I want to tell you why the shape matters 🌿
Because anyone can build a pool
Round pools exist Rectangular pools exist Kidney shaped pools and freeform pools and lap pools and plunge pools — all of them exist and all of them are beautiful in their own way 💦
But when we sat down to design what we wanted at the entrance of our home we kept coming back to one question that none of the standard shapes could answer
What do we want this to SAY? 💚

Not what do we want it to look like
What do we want every single person who approaches our home to feel in the moment they see it
And the answer — when we finally stopped talking around it and said it directly — was welcome 🌿

Real welcome Ancient welcome The kind of welcome that does not need translation because it speaks in a symbol so old and so universally understood by the people we love and the culture we carry that it requires no explanation at all
The betel leaf 🙏

In this video I am taking you through the complete build of our betel leaf shaped front yard pool — from the extraordinary challenge of translating that perfect organic leaf shape into precise ground measurements all the way through excavation reinforcement waterproofing the mosaic tile work that captures the leaf vein detail inside the pool floor the surrounding landscape that frames the leaf without competing with it and the first fill when water found that ancient shape for the very first time 💦✨

This is the most technically challenging most personally meaningful and most completely extraordinary project we have ever built 🌿

And every single morning when I leave my home and every single evening when I return — that betel leaf filled with shimmering water tells me and everyone who visits exactly what kind of home this is
