    You can cut them way down if you want to… my favourite way to do willows is 10” long and submerged 8” in water… they grow like mad once they get going that way… the bigger the diameter the faster the take off time… up to a certain number… I find if you leave the cuttings to big overall you will come into issues of desiccation due to extremely high water demand and a lack of roots to support said demand… as well it isn’t able to be properly anchored in the event of a strong wind… these are just my notes for it, your milage may vary…
