its mainly in this one big patch, but there's bits of it everywhere. some are healthy green, some are pale and yellowish. a few have spiky tops it's purple dead nettle

    Looks a bit like stinging nettle. I can’t see the stinging hairs with the picture quality, though. 

    They are delicious. Just use rubber gloves and make sure they’re cooked.

    Purple dead nettle (lamium purpureum) mint family. It’s an early springtime weed, so this time of year it’s mostly done blooming, been pollinated and set seed, so has mostly finished its life-cycle for the year & that’s why you’re seeing the faded coloring.
