Yesterday I up potted my tomato but I feel like I pruned too aggressively. I have a few more and I just need some guidance. They are currently in 1gal going into 5gal.

You did overprune. Leaves are the sun panels of the plant. The more leaves and bigger surface area it has the bigger and stronger it grows. You only needed to prune partially leaves or leaf tips that are either touching or very close (an in h) to touching the ground.

You never want the lower leaves close to the soil. It’s a breading ground for disease. The only thing I would have done differently would have been to place it deeper in the pot. You can achieve that when you plant out in the garden. Plant looks nice and healthy otherwise! Happy Gardening!

It’s better to do the pruning and repotting separately, your plant just needs time to heal from the shock. Also if you brought it outside from inside it could also be in shock from that. Last year my tomato plant got stunted because I uppotted it from inside in the dead of summer. Started exploding with vegatative growth in the fall, survived the winter, and now it’s a monster. Good luck my friend ☺️🫡

Your environment is different than everyone else so there is lots of advice we all can give you based on our own environment/experience. Being you have multiple plants I suggest trying different things with each plant and see what works best in your area.

One plant dont prune at all, another slightly prune etc. Plant one deep and one plant at soil level….etc. tomatoes are forgiving plants so dont be scared to experiment and see what works best in your area.

That container might be fine for cucumbers or peppers but for tomato is way too small. 5 gallons at least.
