The past week brought a few April showers. Now it’s time to see if they bring May flowers.
As you get your gardens going this spring, there are several events in Lancaster County to score some new plants, learn a new skill or just have a little fun with plant-themed bingo.
Here are five events for plant lovers in Lancaster County this month. Want even more options? See our roundup of plant sales and swaps here.
May 8-9: Landis Valley Herb & Garden Faire
Shop from more than 70 plant vendors at this popular annual event, planned for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 8-9, at the Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum, 2451 Kissel Hill Road. Vendors will specialize in heirloom varieties, and there will also be heirloom plants grown by Landis Valley’s Heirloom Seed Project.
There’s plenty of other fun beyond shopping, too, from educational workshops on topics like organic gardening and beekeeping to live music, hands-on activities and more. Food vendors will be on-site.
Admission fee is adults, $14; seniors 65 and up, $12; children 6-11, $10; kids 5 and under, free. Tickets are available on the website or at the door. Proceeds benefit the museum.

May 13: Conestoga Herb Guild Exchange
Swap plants or seeds at the Conestoga Herb Guild’s annual Plant Seed & Exchange, held as part of its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at the Millersville VFW, 219 Walnut Hill Road, Millersville.
Members and guests — who can attend the event for $5 — are asked to bring at least four potted plants and/or packets of seeds saved from a home garden to trade. Additional plants and seeds may be donated to a “sharing table” available to all. All offerings should be labeled with the plant’s name, the contributor’s name and growing tips. Refreshments will be served after a business meeting.
Info: Guests should register in advance by contacting Susan Atkins at 717-725-7451 or atkinsateb@aol.com.
May 27: Rooted in Air
An epiphyte is a plant or plant-like organism that grows on another plant or object for physical support. Learn all about them at Gallery Grow’s upcoming Rooted in Air workshop, planned for 5:30 p.m. at 320 N. Queen St. in Lancaster city. Participants will design their own mounted plant from a curated selection including bromeliads, orchids, hoya, staghorn ferns and Blue Star ferns. This workshop will also include care tips to help them thrive at home. This event is BYOB, and tickets cost $44.52.

May 29: Centerpiece Class and Dinner in the Pergola at Flourish Farms
If you’re looking for an extra-special event this month, Flourish Farms in East Earl will host an evening including a class and dinner in a dreamy, floral-draped environment. The event, planned for 5-9 p.m. Friday, May 29, kicks off with a walking tour of the gardens before participants are set free to cut their own flowers. Those flowers will be used to create a large centerpiece in a ceramic compote, following by a catered, candlelit four-course dinner in the farm’s pergola. This event is rain or shine, and in the event of rain, the dinner will be held indoors in the Flourish Event Space. At least 10 people are needed to have this event, and ticketholders will be notified a week in event if it is canceled. Tickets are $195.
