The environment minister says it’s the responsibility of gardeners to make sure the invasive plant species they buy don’t spread into the wild.

In a Tynwald question for written reply, Clare Barber was asked by Rushen MHK Juan Watterson what powers the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture has to remove non-native species.

She responded invasive species like griselinia are widely sold in shops, but it’s the landowner’s duty to make sure they don’t end up growing in the wild.

Mrs Barber added DEFA has placed information cards at nurseries around the Island, encouraging people to think before they buy these kinds of plants.
