This is a Nikita’s gift persimmon tree. It’s a smaller hybrid that gets 10 – 15 feet and I plan on keeping it on the shorter side for picking fruit easier.
A couple years ago the leader got snapped off by a falling tree branch and I did something dumb and staked a horizontal branch upright to create a new leader because it was the next thickest branch coming off the lower trunk. It obviously has a big curve in it which I highlighted on the left.
On the right is a new leader the tree made last year that shot straight up.. but it’s not coming from the center so it seems like a balance issue long term?
I have no idea what I’m doing or what to do. Does the bend in my current forced leader matter long term since it’s not going to be a super tall tree (but it will have the weight of lots of fruit).. do I let the new straight leader take over.. but it’s off center itself so is that an issue?
Second picture shows the whole tree
