I planted my lilac this year and it also had a single bloom. Would be interested to know if there is something I need to do
I played the long game and bought some cheap suckers someone dug up on FB marketplace. It took them about 4-5 years to turn from a twig into small shrubs and finally start blooming. I think they just take a few years getting established first.
They only bloom off of old wood, so they can definitely take time to establish and start blooming. Also consider that if/when you prune! Also lilacs don’t like acidic soil, so use lime to adjust if needed.
Lilacs are my favorite flowers, hope you enjoy your lilacs for many years to come!
