So this girl has been living in a basement for most of her life,
She's always tried to gorw towards light but yeah it's kind of complicated in this kind of space,
Anyway fast forward to now we moved in a few months ago in a place where there's a lot of light but she still seems to be in making more ropes mode, we don't really know what from do, she's growing a bit of leafs in some places but the biggest parts are still just kind of expending instead of making leafs.
We saw that we'd maybe need to cut her but we don't really have the heart to do it, wanting to see if it's really the only option or no??
(No plant has been harmed I promise she's just a lil quirky lmao)

If the light situation has been fixed, this would be a good candidate for a “chop and prop” to start fresh with the new conditions! What you currently have will eventually go back to making more leaves if it’s back in a higher light environment, but you’ll always have those long sections of vines without leaves without chopping it.
cut right after the node on all of the leaves in the pot. then propagate the leaves at the end., and plant into the pot once rooted. the length in between can go.
My dad just throws that vine coiled just like that-into a pot with some soil. Or chop it up and throw it in some sphagnum moss!
She’ll be much happier with the big chop and you can grow little pothos babies, either by sticking the nodes directly into the soil again or letting them root in water.
The plant is putting a lot of resources and water into maintaining that long stem, and the lack of leaves means there isn’t much photosynthesis going on. If you chop the long vine off, the plant will likely start sprouting new leaves and stems much faster than before; you’re actually doing the plant a favor. And you can propagate the nodes with leaves on that long stem, so you’ll have some bonus plants!
Chop. You’ll be so happy you did if the lighting situation has improved. Your plant will be too!
Lmao never seen a plant with quite such an extension cord.
The bare stems will not grow new leaves, so yeah chopping and propping may be the best way to go. Or, dont chop, and just make sure her lengthy bits get the sun they crave.
Think of it as a haircut rather than a dismemberment
Use it as a lasso if someone breaks into your house
Currently trying to air layer one of these by tying a modified sandwich bag with soil around it and some rooting hormone. A week later no action still. I think I need to be checking on it more and keeping the soil most.
You have a gold mine of props here. Cut that rope in sections of 3 or so nodes each and put the bottom of each chop in some water. You’ll have more pothos babies than you’ll be able to give away!
I have her cousin, Rapunzel 🤣 just posted a pic earlier today for similar advice.
cut that
Buy a hat and call yourself indy. Start studying archaeology.
1.) Find a rare plant collector as a “Emerald Pothos Bullwhip”
2.) Go buy a new Cebu.
In all seriousness though you need to trim it. Cutting the lead growth will encourage back budding and give you a much bushier plant
Chop chop
Thanks for posting OP. I was just wondering if I should do this with one of my lengthy pothos.
If there is one thing I’ve learned about houseplants that most new plant lovers don’t realize, is just how important it is to trim and remove parts to encourage growth. It seems painful to think of but I’ve never trimmed or removed pothos ropes and had my plants react poorly. Heck I cut the top of my Fiddle and now I have an honest to god tree in my kitchen. You can even spot its prop baby in the rack up top! Cut that bad boy and trust me your plant is going to repay you 10-fold for helping it better distribute resources. Also, your plant may have been spending time making secret roots under there, so once that long bit is gone, I bet it sends up multiple new strands. 🙂 sending positive plant vibes your way !

Macrame?
Check out using Keiki Paste at the node points. That way you might actually make her grow new leaves at those spots! Good luck 🙂
