I’ve had this cactus for about 8 months now. In the last 5/6 months, the base has been slowly lightening and changing colour. What do you think could be the cause of it?
- Potting soil?
- Watering? – Barely watered over winter. The picture here is after just watering it. Soil was previously very dry
- Lack of nutrients?
- Temperature? Not near radiators, but the room can get quite cold at night
- Light? – the plant is in a light room, but the table blocks most direct light from the base
- New growth?

Could it be corking to support its weight?
That’s a euphorbia. The double thorn is a giveaway
