A World Frozen In Time… And Gone Slightly Mad

In Lord Ambermaze, you awaken on an island locked in a strange magical stasis. No one ages. No one dies. And the longer things stay like that, the weirder they become.

This isn’t your typical fantasy setting either. Expect to battle creatures that feel like they’ve wandered out of a fever dream – carnivorous fruit, explosive vegetables, mutant insects. It’s bizarre, a little unsettling, and oddly charming all at once.

At the centre of it all sits the enigmatic Lord Ambermaze himself, a figure whose experiments have clearly spiralled far beyond control.

Combat, Mazes And More Than A Few Surprises

At its core, Lord Ambermaze is about navigating one giant, interconnected maze – a sprawling great garden packed with enemies, hazards and secrets. You’ll be armed with a mix of melee and ranged tools – sword, bow, shield – and expected to make good use of them as you deal with everything from acidic slimes to fire-spewing moths. But brute force alone won’t cut it.

Traps are everywhere. Bottomless pits, spike floors, tangled thorn bushes – this is a world that wants to slow you down, trip you up and send you back to square one if you’re not paying attention.

And then there are the puzzles. Expect sokoban-style block pushing, colour-matching challenges and escape-room-style brain teasers dotted throughout the island.

More Than Just Fighting For Survival

What helps Lord Ambermaze stand out is how it breaks up the action.

Between battles and exploration, you’ll find a surprising number of side activities. Fishing might reward you with treasure… or blow up in your face. Shell games tempt you with risky rewards. Hidden chests might contain riches or regret.

There’s also a social side to the island. You’ll encounter a cast of unusual characters, each with their own stories, quirks and mysteries. Build relationships, hand out gifts, and uncover what’s really going on beneath the surface.

A Curious Island Worth Exploring?

Lord Ambermaze (download it from the Xbox Store) should well be a game that embraces the oddity, rather than hiding it. It’s not trying to be overly serious or polished to a mirror shine. If you’re looking for a fantasy adventure that mixes combat, puzzles and a healthy dose of weird, this is one island that’s well worth getting lost in.
