Location – Southern England

Plant 1: 15-20cm/6-8inches tall, the rest of the bed is mint, rosemary, chives, but this one does not smell edible. I think it's a traditional weed of some kind (and it is growing in the joins in the paving as a weed as well), but I want to make sure before I dig it all up. Plant.id said horseweed?

Plant 2: Large woody shrub, 2m/6ft tall. The flowers are nicely, but not strongly, scented. It has some dead parts and has partially fallen over the path, I really just need to know if I can cut back the 60% of it that has become leggy and in the way while it's in flower without killing the rest.

Pic one is definitely a traditional weed. The name escapes me atm.

  2. 1 I think Erigeron canadensis invasive and not interesting

    2 is probably Syringa meyeri

Pic 2 is a Lilac! You can prune to shape & clear out deadwood.

We bush hogged an old overgrown fence row once. The following spring we had three gorgeous lilacs grow and flower profusely.
