Rosa carolina just appeared under my bathroom window 2 years ago with only one flower, and about four last year. This spring its about 2 feet tall with dozens to buds. Had no idea how special she was. 🌸
Boy the thorns can make you sick. No the us government encouraged farmers to plant multiflora rose in the late 50s early 60s. A huge mistake on governments part Google it. I cut it off tordon base but it has taken over midwest timber stands. It's horrible & you can get very sick from the pricks in your skin. Ive gotten it 2x now since mid March. Its a bad flue like but fungal thingy. My arms legs huge red sores yellow yuck drainage. Something to do with the dirt from the ground its also a forester & Gardner risk re illness. The rose things cut thru my jeans ripped my shirts got caught in my hair.
In Alberta (Wild Rose Country) many years ago my little mum fell backwards into a thicket of wild roses. Knowing she would get scraped up pretty bad if she struggled to get up she waited patiently. Our Gordan Setter Boomer came along and she was able to hold on to his collar and get hauled out relatively unscathed. She never begrudged the beautiful wild roses!
I love wild roses 👍🌼 they are very easy to grow from seeds, i just bury the seeds about an inch deep in a spot i remember in autumn before the first frosts, the type of wild rose i grow has seeds that need to experience winter to sprout, they sprout abundantly in spring and establish very quickly in a few years, i grew hawthorn the same way.

We had deep large multiflora in our yard when I was growing up in Southeast Iowa. We loved it. Smelled absolutely heavenly. They don't bloom long. We had so many wonderful, huge shrubs in our yard, weigela, a burning bush we kids played in, forsythia, and hedges. We also had black raspberries galore, so much better than red raspberries and blackberries.

An introduced plant species from Asia escaped cultivation and became invasive? Color me shocked.
Rose tea is delightful. ^.^
