Hey y’all, I finally got some good buckets with grates at the bottom for sifting! Snow cracked one of my bins, so I sifted out all the small stuff and threw the rest in my other piles. This bin has really only been going for about a month. I was more careful about putting smaller pieces of food waste, used dead leaves for most of my carbon, and kept it moist with water and piss.
First pic is my sifted stuff, then my cool bucket, then my other pile with bigger chunks. The big chunk piles have been watered and turned more regularly in the past month or so, and they seem to be breaking down too!

How large is the total pile? I think you need to keep building it before sifting and using it.
