My neighbor has both. I think they’re louder and more frequent.
If you think peacocks are loud.. Wait til you get some Guineas 😬
Guineas are very loud and very VERY stupid. Like….ridiculously stupid.
We tried several times and they never learned to roost where it was safe. Very high casualties just from sheer idiocy.
They were hand raised right along with the chickens and never became ‘tame’ or friendly, always terrified, always shrieking.
They are loud but they are also always the first to notice hawks and eagles. Also they can fly. They are pretty wild so you gotta get them super comfortable with their zone before you can let them roam or they might just decide they like a tree better than the coop. Or they might just peace out.
I think they are great but I also love geese.
They’re not really effective alarms because they alarm at everything and are just generally loud most of the daytime and a little at night. I hated our guineas at first, but they’ve really grown in me in the last couple of years.
If it’s a noise issue, yes, they are out. Loud af, night and day, over nothing. Great animals. Zero ticks in my yard ever, but damn. Annoying as hell.
My Guineas are laying 2 eggs a day… Like them… 🙂
Do NOT! Do NOT! I grabbed some at tractor supply. You ever wonder what TV static mingled with random yelling from TV shows sounds kid at max volume? Now imagine it outside your window! Now imagine it’s done by a creature with the intelligence of a walnut!
I just had to reduce mine from 9 to 4. Too loud. Alarm at everything like others said. Kinda became the boys who cried wolf. Too annoying. They roost up in the trees, semi -feral at this point.

Peacocks aren’t that loud… as I’m still hearing them from inside the house with the TV on… 😀
Boy they are dumber than a box of rocks too. Last batch i had half of them broke their legs cause they were jumping and not using wings to smooth the landing 🙄
Love them! Had them for years. Fun to watch, and they let me know when the coyotes are around.
They fucking love ticks if you’re in an area with a lot, but I used to accidentally kill so many when I was a farm vet because they’re so stupid they wouldn’t move away from the tires of the truck.
I adore my birds. Yes they’re loud, nowhere near peacock loud however. We own 20 acres in the UP and while we still have ticks, 3 so far this year, its nowhere near what it could be. Deer are in our yard nightly. I would take the noise for the bug patrol. Nothing beats them for pest control.

Oh Lordy they are so loud! It’s a different kind of loud. No a screeching help help help that peacocks have but loud as shit.
You have to coop train them. It took 6 months and a lot of effort before mine understood the routine. Now they go in, no problem.
Just get Chickens , there are a million different types to choose from
My dad said many people had them when he was a kid in the 50s. Could hear them all over the countryside. I keep hemming and hawing on it, but I’ll probably get a dozen keets once the current batch of ducklings graduates to the range/freezer. Worst case I’ll just be eating guineas too, but I like the fact that they are almost feral.
At least guinea hens are useful, entertaining and have exceptional table quality if raised correctly. Peafowl are just a pain amd expensive. I have never had better tick and insect control and I appreciate the alarm calls when someone or something enters the yard. Yes they can be loud and range quite far from home, but they are generally hardy and low maintenance, always return to roost….a little wild to try to handle but its either free range or full captivity (if you are raising for meat) because once they are out, THEYRE OUT. Worth it in my opinion.

They’re an acquired taste, but I love them. With time and attention they fill a niche role in a system really well. Tick control and predator alert are major benefits. If you have a busy road, they’re very likely to become roadkill.. something to consider.
They’re loud and not real smart. But they forage like nothing else. I watched four of them kill and eat most of a snake one time. You do have to get them very used to their coop before you ever let them roam. Because they’ll try to go wild.
