Onions flower when temperatures change or the plant has become older. Many people replant store bought onions because they are cheap and easy to grow. However, onions go to flower their second year. I could cut off this bloom and eat it. I can also let it flower and create seeds. I’m going to let this one flower. The flowers are really pretty. It adds a little whimsy to the garden patch.

I’ll keep you updated on my onion’s flowers.

Seeing your plants go to seed (bolting) can feel like a failure, but it’s actually a natural part of the plant’s life cycle! 🧅✨
In this video, I’m showing you what onion flower buds look like. While it means the plant is shifting its energy, it’s not all bad news:
✅ The flower buds are actually edible and delicious!
✅ The flowers attract pollinators to your garden.
✅ You can eventually collect your own seeds for next year.
