Hi! Ive been wanting to get one or two carnivorous plants and Ive been thinking of putting them in this kind of setup to keep them nice and hydrated. Has anyone here tried it? I grow a lot of cacti and that's taught me to be super weary of arrangements. (Would also love to see pics of your own setups 😊)

Thank you!

i think terracotta can leach minerals into your soil, so you might not want to use that

These setups aren’t sustainable, besides the pings (except primuliflora isn’t typically grown on rocks). Flytraps, Sarracenia are mainly outdoor plants that’s like intense sun and deeper pots

In short, I’d find better inspiration like estebalius_plantedscape on Instagram (for expertly done stuff) or even California carnivores for beginner stuff – you’ll get a better idea of what’s viable in where

Use real life moss instead of that dyed preserved moss you got there

Which ones? It’ll help to know. Arrangements are fine so long as your plants have similar care requirements. If you like temperate bog plants, then you’re fine.

Terracotta will leach salts into your media which will kill off your plants.

I have a set up similar to the first one and it’s been fine for over a year now. I have a mix of hybrid sarracenia, flytraps and a few volunteer sundew.

Here’s one of my bog setups. It doesn’t look this full right now. The pings all died off (probably need different conditions), whereas the sundews and utricularia are doing well. Can’t tell how well the VFT are doing, as they’re less dense now, but it still flowers. I should probably add some sarracenias, those would probably do well also.

You don’t need that setup with a cup in the middle. Just put them all in a ceramic, sealed off container, like a mug. Full sun. I just fill it up with water to the brim once a week.

You’ll want to avoid anything terracotta. I’m a noob still, but all the advice I’ve seen here says that the terracotta can leach harmful minerals into the soil. Carnivorous plants are extremely sensitive to any additional minerals hence why distilled water is also a must.
