Elaborate on ‘everything’
Looks like dried up crabgrass. If it is, try using some post emergent around August. In the early fall aerate, lay some top soil and seed. Then use pre emergent next March to prevent it the coming season.
Dethatching?
Looks like a lot of dead or dried-up runners between the green grass spots. Could be from Bermuda grass or something similar. Bermuda and Zoysia have not yet greened up in my area (5A).
When was it last green?
And no, grubs would not be my guess.
My yard looked like this, it was crabgrass. Hand to pull it all and re-seed the bare spots.
Pull it up and see if there are grubs
