First time vegetable gardener here, wanna make sure I'm not letting my cucs get overly ripe. This one's about 8" long, ready to harvest?

Following cause I have the same question with mine. Yours look so nice!!! Leaves look so healthy.

  2. Ya bro, its on the longer side. You’ll get dozens of these just take em off and see what size you think tastes best. I think smaller is better

Cucumbers are good to go at any size. Better not to let them get too big, because they start getting seedy

Pick it especially if the plant is healthy it will make more. I am not 100% sure but I believe you do not want to let a cucumber over-ripen on the vine because then that vine will feel like it completed its mission and not be as productive after

Harvest earlier rather than later. Cucumbers that reach seed maturity, will lead to the death of your plant as their life cycle will be complete

The thing I find with cukes is they do a good job of hiding and all the sudden appearing from nowhere! The other thing is they are heavy producers & a few plants can feed a neighbourhood.

Last year I started brining my cukes to make fermented pickles and preservce some of the excess. Not sure if that interests you but it’s super easy. Eseentially 3% pickling salt water and pour over clean cuke spears with the blossom end chopped off. I add some spices sometimes and throw in some tea leaves or bay leaves as the tannins keep them crisp.

Id be hesitant to let them get bigger

Gorgeous! My dogs eat my cucumbers before they get anywhere near that size.

On another note, I learned that with most cucumber varieties, if you let a cucumber mature to the point of starting to turn yellow, the plant will think it’s completed its life cycle and die.

Better to pick early and frequently.
