Hey, because I got so many questions about this, I thought I'd show how it works. (And more than a few people thought I had a gaping hole in the roof๐Ÿ˜‚)

Each of the 4 sides is a separate planter, made of a section of regular rain gutter, with end caps on, filled with soil. They're hung on normal gutter brackets, with the tops cut off so they don't "clip" into place, which makes it easier to take them down.

The bathroom has a pretty low ceiling so it's easy to reach, for me anyway, and takes about 2 minutes to take them down and put them back.

We had a rare clear sunny day in Ireland today, so I took them down and sat them in the shower and gave them a drink. The bathroom is a wet room, so the floor section in the shower gently slopes to the long silver drain in the corner, it doesn't matter if the floor gets wet at all.

I've never tried this kinda thing before, so we'll see how it goes. Hopefully by the end of the summer they'll be thriving.

A few more questions I got asked: There is nothing over the bathroom, so nobody can peek in. No neighbours in close range, the wall at the back is my (unfinished) extension and there are no windows on that side. I can easily climb onto the roof from the back of the house to clean the big skylight (although I don't do it regularly enough). And I know my bathroom needs a lick of paint, but I'm a busy guy, leave me alone ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thanks guys, you're all gorgeous ๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜
