Wanted to ask the community for their opinion. I have been hunting a particular Hoya for a bit now but they're few and far between in Canada. A Hoya Ruthie. They're known for their absolutely massive blooms.
Yesterday I stumbled across a marketplace seller who finally had one but she is asking $50 for this longer cutting. Obviously the value is in the buyers hand but I just wanted to get people's thoughts on if this would be worthwhile or if I should keep waiting for a more established plant to pop up?

If it’s not common in your area, and you really want it, and you can readily afford it, then yes. You can make 2 or 3 props from that cutting to make a fuller pot, or to have backup plants.
Which Hoya is that?
Are you confident in your abilities to prop and root cuttings? If so, go for it
If it’s a variety that isn’t usually available, I think it’s a pretty fair price, but only if you’re comfortable with propagating it. Cause you could chop it into at least five cuttings and even try to prop the lowest sections as wet sticks. That’ll give you a pretty decently sized plant.
As mentioned, you can make 4 new plants from this cutting. $50 seems high but if you break it down $12.50 a node is reasonable. Personally I prefer cuttings. For comparison, Gardino sells Ruthie in 2.5in pot for $30 (and it’s out of stock). You’d end up close to $50 once you add shipping. Also the cutting won’t have to travel in the mail. I vote buy it.
Deal or not is my favourite off brand tv show.
If your confident in your propping skills id say go for it, im not sure what part of Canada your in but edmonton exotic plant crowd is selling a smaller albeit already planted one for $70 for comparison

I think if you are good at propagating and feel confident it’s worth it. I see a possible 7 props off that one piece. If you’re willing to cut like that. I just had a 15’ piece of my carnosa splash get broken and got almost 40 props. Nearly every single one survived. I gave most of them away when I just had to move!!
I’m not sure of the market value of this one, but that’s plenty of nodes.
I’ve had 100% success with cuttings in a Tupperware, with perlite and water, under grow lights. Even slow propagators do well. Heat, light, humidity is all you need.
Have you seen the blooms of Hoya Lauterbachii? Mine is still a small cutting but I know I’ll lose my shit when she blooms! I just googled Hoya Ruthie and now I want one too!
