Hello everyone. I hate my unmanageable garden bed and I do not have the time to upkeep with weeds (I have a baby) or $$$ to spend on purchasing new plants (I have a baby). I had chat gpt create this but something feels off? Am I overthinking it? What would you do?

AI slop aside, I do like the shorter bed that incorporates the tree much more

Put some preen down and some fresh mulch on top. You don’t have to use it forever, you can just use it this one year until things settle down

Any garden bed is going to be weeding unfortunately. I think taking a string trimmer to the edges of the garden bed would make it shine and be more worth your money, I personally think it looks good! I would hunt some deals for plants on facebook marketplace or go to a flea market they usually will have plants and be way cheaper.

Realistically the whole thing is backwards. Landscaping should be around perimeter and open grass in the middle. That said, I’d leave it alone

    1) weeding
    2) curve the rock design more section by section
    3) find someone to replace some of the plants. I feel like palm tree is not fitting for this

It looks like either a Mickey Mouse glove or a Hawaiian shaka cartoon hand

Just note that the AI design, while it looks nice, has changed the spacing between the bed and the tree. You would need to plant things there or move your tree (bad idea).

I’ll encourage you to go to a local plant sale hosted by a garden society (like Master Gardeners or Wild Ones), where they are usually CHEAP plants that are well-adapted to your area and won’t need a lot of upkeep. This is usually the time of year for it.

This is a hot take but I’d gut the flower bet all the way equal to the end of the sidewalk. I’m sure cutting that side sections annoying

Congrats on your baby! Crazy but fun idea to hide the whole bed until first frost and see a ton of butterflies this summer: get a bag of zinnias in your favorite colors and sprinkle them everywhere. If you wanna make it look extra cool and impressive, sprinkle cosmos behind the zinnias. It will take less than a minute to sprinkle them where you want and all you gotta do is water them until they’re pretty established. Easy peasy.

It it is a lot of weeds just put a layer of cardboard on top. Weeds will die from no sunlight especially if they are just sprouting.

I understand the (I have a baby) as I do as well but if you go to a nursery (the plant type not the baby type) you can get new plants for wayyyy cheaper than your big box store has them. We just redid our front yard planters for $200

I echo the commenters who vote for you to find a new ground cover. English Ivy or something else that your intentional plants can grow through.

  13. I have the same problem in my front yard and I am considering tearing everything out to plant a fruit tree instead.

Sounds like you have no money or time.

Probably focus on something else? 🤷‍♂️🤔

You need ground covers and layered shrubs (preferably native to your area) and a solid layer of 2-3in of mulch. The mulch will keep the weeds down, look nice, and limit watering needs. If your budget is highly limited start with 3in of mulch and add plants as you can.

The AI has removed all weeds from the grass and has made it look like a lush, green golf course.

This AI version of your front yard would be either lots TLC/labour from you or lots of $$ to a landscaper. The garden border rocks have been switched out for bricks. That’s a few hundred $$ for materials alone.

Get a scuffle hoe, best and fastest weeding tool ever.

A rock garden (if within budget) will save time on maintenance and money on your water bill.
