Can proper planting transform your home? As we move towards summer, homeowners are considering how gorgeous florals, verdant evergreens, and lush grasses can upgrade the exterior of their houses. Luckily, Denise Richards is here to provide a masterclass.

The Homes & Gardens team is taking major inspiration from the Real Houswife of Beverly Hills, who shared her beautifully blooming garden idea on her Facebook page. It features gorgeous purple agapanthus (just like the ones you can grow with these seeds from Amazon) planted alongside a winding path. A small gravel walkway makes her evergreens look so bright, with pretty cypress trees against the house and bushes on the other side.

So, what makes Denise’s flower beds so stunning? I spoke with Homes & Gardens’ resident master gardener, Rachel Bull, to find out. Below you’ll find a sneak peek into Denise’s outdoor space, an edit of products to recreate a lush look at home, and all of rachels’ thoughts on the stunning planting.

Growing agapanthus is one of the most striking elements of Denise’s garden. Rachel explains: ‘I adore the simplistic yet quietly stylish agapanthus planting in the background here. Agapanthus are one of those plants that only really come into their own when you lean into abundance. Planted en masse, their tall, sculptural stems and rounded, airy heads create a soft rhythm through a border, catching the light and gently swaying with every breeze. I love the pretty lilac shade of this variety, which helps soften the lush green of the lawn and the surrounding evergreens.’

These lovely flowers have a gorgeous impact anywhere they are planted. Rachel states: ‘There’s a clarity to them too – the lilac, blue and pastel shades feel cooling on the hottest days, bringing a sense of calm. And because they flower so generously at once, the effect is both uplifting and quietly dramatic.’

The right plants can completely elevate your outdoor space. Following the guidance of gardens that are already beautiful is the perfect place to start.
