That’s an incredible amount of work for 8sqft.. and a swastika esk shape to boot.

Looks like those planters will last 1000 years

I am a novice. Just a thought but take it not as gospel. I try not to screw/nail into the end grain of a board. I look at the end grain as a bunch of straws. Using this end and fastening to it with nails/screws doesn’t hold up. Glue is better but still not great. Again, I am a novice.

This is so sweet! I would be so happy if my husband made me planters like this. Great job!

I’m happy your wife is happy but that is an unfortunate design that we’ve all been conditioned to see
Happy-Emphasis5231
Nicely made! I would have made them a little deeper though.
ed_is_dead
Those look great!! I made similar stands like that for my Earth Boxes.

I know im independent and I don’t need a man, but how nice would it be if I had a man to make me custom planters 🥲

Dang man shoulda left it cedar. I’m hoping this was at your wife’s insistence

They look like they’re from a post-apocalyptic base building game, and it’s awesome you made them and can now use them.
It’s a lovely shape and all, but something real crazy happened with a similar shape like 80 years ago.
Similar enough to be slightly concerned, different enough to not *inherently* be an issue

Why did you opt to paint the wood?

be careful, little John might steal that galvanized steel for his 0.002sqft apartment
ASUS_USUS_WEALLSUS
This guy really said “how small and hideous can I make these planters?” I just can’t fathom how you landed on this as your final design lol.

As a German, the shape of those planters makes me very uncomfortable.
And I don’t understand why you chose the maximum amount of material for the minimum planting space.

I made a very long planter similar to these with galvanized steel about 3 years ago. They’re rusting through in many, many spots and I suspect I’ll need to tear the whole thing down and go with a different plan within the next couple years. If they aren’t already all filled with soil, you may consider a plastic liner to decrease the moisture touching the metal (which I did not think to do).

What is holding up the bottom piece of metal? In the photos it doesn’t look like it’s held up by wooden crossbars. Will it hold the weight of the soil long term?
Are there holes for drainage in the bottom, and where does the dirty water from the soil drain to? Does it drip down the legs?
Another pic. There are 4 of these polycarbonate lids for off season planting

Isn’t zinc leeching from galvanized materials bad for food crops? Or is that not a thing
hellobird87
Not sure why everyone is being so mean and negative about this, and then upvoting all the other mean and negative comments. They look nice OP, very structurally sound and clean. Sharp corners. The grey stain helps them blend in with the grey stone patio which I think makes them look a lot better and more congruent. Not so out of place. Probably a helluva lot cheaper than buying them from a store too, I’m sure.

All that beautiful cedar and you painted it…
It’s stain. To help preserve it
Those are really cool!

Those planters look… Germanic
They look good. Better in picture 2 without the paint.
Would be really really nice if u could use fabric fibre and not steel
Oh… You painted it.
You’re getting close with that design choice
The term ‘Galvanized Steel’ was like a sleeper activation phrase that triggered memories of 100 shorts on Youtube from like 2ish years ago.
Anybody else remember the weird ‘builds with galvanized steel ‘blanks’ ‘ content surge from a while back?
Also neat little raised garden beds idea, hope they work well for ya
Millennial gray strikes again 😭
Was this your final solution then? 😉 have you filled them with the “braun” stuff yet?
Nice!
Why not go full metal if you wanted this lol
Your walking on a thin line there with the design
