Had for 6 years always been thriving. Gets about 4-5 hours of afternoon light. Water about once a month with the hose. always by our front door. Went from an East facing house to West facing. Should I move to backyard where it’s East facing? More soil?

A common problem with cacti and succulents is etiolation. This is when a succulent stretches or becomes leggy. Reply with “!etiolation” for advice.

How long has it been in its new spot? Did you change climates?

I’d water at least once a week outdoors in a pot and that big. You can prune it half way to make it easier to manage the transition.
