Saw those in a fancy florist, the flowers were the biggest phals I’ve ever seen. Are they big because of special care and fertilisers or because of their specie? I assume there are sub species in the fam of phals (?)

Thank you

so what some big nurseries do is grow phals in temperatures above 80 Fahrenheit for multiple years, they won’t flower when it’s constantly that warm, then they drop the temps and the plants all start making these giant spikes with huge flowers with all their saved up energy

  2. Not species (same word singular and plural). They are hybrids/crosses (mix of different species), bred to have large flowers

Of course care plays a role but it comes down mostly to genetics

Mostly genes! Orchids with huge blooms tend to bloom huge usually!

This depends fully on the size of the orchid and the type of orchid. Phals often can get really large, but you’d need to buy a hybrid that specifically has large flowers. There’s no way to make an orchid with small flowers grow bigger ones, as it’s all to do with genetics.
