Next time use a tire or rim to make the job easier. Place the rim or tire next to the stump and run the strap up and over the tire. This creates an upward motion and rips the stump out much easier.

is it safe to do this with a stump that is right by the side of my house? It is a split level so there is just a cinderblock wall on the bottom half of the basement below ground level
