Yes, this is what I get for impulse-buying at a grocery store. I've never seen a BOP in person (that I'm aware of), so I didn't look at it super close, and it took around 12 hours of my fiance saying "this looks like plastic, I can literally see the glue on it" before I did some research and sadly tugged it out of the soil. I've read that the plant itself is (usually) an actual BOP, but I have no idea if it's reginae, nicolai, or a mysterious third option. Do we have any idea of who this obscure guy is?

It looks like a nicolai, so not the orange flowering one, and very unlikely to flower in a living room environment.

I remember buying my BoP and it fit in the seat of my vehicle. That was about 4-5 years ago and I just had to trim some 10 foot leaves from it. And that was AFTER repotting and splitting it into 3 separate plants. They get big pretty quick.
I hate when places do this! It’s so common for cactuses too. My mom bought me an adorable little cactus with a “bloom” to keep in my old bedroom at her house for when I go there for visits. When I would visit we always would say wow it’s blooming again for me!! So I didn’t look too closely at this plant since my mom took care of it. I thought it was blooming every time I visited lol! It didn’t make sense but it was years ago and I didn’t know places did fake blooms. Finally one day I discovered it was just a fake plastic bloom glued right on to the cactus. lol oooops

They sell those at our local plant store with those flowers but the small one that has a chance of flowering. I have a nicolai and it’s a beautiful plant, but it sizes up FAST! I got mine when it was your size now it’s hitting the ceiling – so easily >2m tall and no flowers

I’m sure this was annoying for OP but I also find it hilarious that they are sticking fake flower stems into a real plant to fool people
My plant-killer friend would never notice this! He would be so relieved that his hard work of never watering his plants has finally paid off!
This is my absolute favorite flower, and I would buy this good of a fake in a heartbeat.
