We’re Transforming This NEGLECTED Land Into a Thriving Homestead

It’s year 2 of restoring our abandoned property in Southern Italy is in full swing. What started as an abandoned house on forgotten land is slowly becoming a working off grid homestead. When we bought the land there wasn’t a single worm in the soil. Now the compost is crawling with them—small wins on the long road of turning abandoned land into something alive.

This homestead vlog covers a full week of homestead build work: dry stone walls, gardening and the kind of DIY construction that modern homesteading actually looks like (messy, hot and occasionally arguing with your partner 😃).

This week:
🪨 Dry stone wall construction
🌱 Lawn rebuild — salvaging roots, reseeding & leveling
🥝 Kiwi berry trellis construction— new addition to our spring garden!
🫛 Pea trellis construction — lets hope it holds lol
🥬 Spring garden planting — creating an edible homestead

If you’re into homesteading for beginners, living off the grid or just curious what an abandoned property renovation actually looks like day to day — this is the channel. No shortcuts, no pretending we know what we’re doing. Just two people, one piece of land and a lot to learn.

  1. Ist eure Kiwibeere selbstbefruchtend? Ihr braucht sonst mindestens 2 Pflanzen, eine männlich, eine weiblich

  2. What a lovely relaxed film, loved the mix of building & planting 😊
Yes to less thinking and more doing, Robi ! My respects to your wise person. I used to be a perfectionist and there's so much I haven't even started, because I couldn't do it "properly" 😫

  3. Guys, how did you decide to move to the south of Italy? Did you already have family there, or were you just looking for cheaper land? I’m thinking of doing something similar and was wondering how you chose the exact location

  4. The terraces are looking amazing! I love lavender would plant it everywhere where the space wasn't needed for the food forest. Bees also love it.

  5. All the steps & terracing make the land more useful and beautiful, im digging the transformation 👍👍☀️Stay Coooool❄️❄️ be blessed🙏. We had a few days this week in Idaho where it was as low as 17°F 🥶rediculous. Lol

  6. Kiwibeere braucht meines Wissen 2 Pflanzen: eine männliche und eine weibliche, sonst gibts keine Früchte. Grüsse aus der CH.

  7. Hi you 2 ❤ really enjoyed watching your progress, its all looking fabulous 👌 👏 I had to laugh at all your peas, I've only just set mine here in the UK I'm a bit late this season,I hope I have as much success as you have 😅 xx

  8. For your climbing plant, get a passionfruit! The flowers are beautiful and the fruit is delicious. Can't go wrong with a passionfruit. Passiflora Mollisima (banana passionfruit) is the very best! Also, get some Juniper Berry EO and a spray bottle. If you get burnt/scraped/cut, hit it with the JB and it'll be better next day.

  9. Wonderful progress, superb teamwork with just the right amount of silliness 😂🤭🤣 So nice to see you both working in sunny ☀️ weather!

  10. Anyways, I know you are close to me. I can recognise the area and landscapes, the altitude must be the same as mine as we share the weather and plants are vary much at the same stage. I wish to meet you guys and maybe have a chat. I was living in Uk for about 11 years. And then moved to italy in the same time as you guys. You are doing a great job, and every week I cannot wait to see your next changes. If you would like to meet, I am in Villanova del Battista. Travelling really often to Benevento. DM me and can give you my number. Also, we have a azienda agricola, we do veggies and much more. If you need some info or help just ask. Keep up the good content!! It's my favourite time of the sunday evenening. Byeee

  11. Emily save your egg shells to use around the garden. I rinse them out, let them dry then crush them with my fingers until they’re somewhat fine. Sprinkle them around where slugs are a problem or in the bottom of the planting hole for tomatoes. The calcium is a boost for tomatoes. Good work.

  12. 21:13 – Take a look at the 'Three Sisters' method… you grow sweetcorn (Corn-on-the-cob), then plant beans at the base of each corn stalk (they use the stalk to grow up) and then squashes (courgettes, pumpkin, melons etc) in between that spread out and stop weeds growing.

  13. I am just amazed at the changes you have made in only a year, it is absolutely beautiful! You should both be so proud of all your hard work and progress! Love seeing both of you each week ❤

  14. I have a question too 🙂
How is the social live where you at? What is you perspective in live about it too.
Would love to hear about that aspect of live.

  15. Passion fruit a great idea instead of grape vine. Looks like you guys might need to plan to plant windbreak shrubs and trees to protect your hillside plants. It gets very damagingly windy there. Bay, Laurel, or Wax leaf privet are quick growers that are easy to maintain interspersed with Italian cypress.
Might need two Kiwi fruit, male and female unless you have the self pollinating one, but two would be ideal anyway. I used to hate the fruit, but now love them.
Try Romano (flat) beans. Good nitrogen fixer and bee attracter. Artichoke (both Jerusalem and Globe) again for bees and product. Herbs (Tarragon, Thyme, Parsley, Fennel, Sage, Chives)
    Walnut and Chestnut trees?
Oh, and of course Lavender and Rosemary.

  16. I guessing the Kiwi berry you are talking about is Kiwi fruit❓ if so you will need to be careful as they grow out of control in no time and there will be no room for your grape vine, plus they really need a sturdy support much stronger than you have put in.

  17. Plant Tamarind tree, tamarind is very pretty plant and its fruits remove microplastics and fluoride from body 🙂
