Secret white blossom under the big leaves, will turn into a green fruit. Not sure if edible but super cool!

Haven’t seen any mayapples since I was a child so they bring back happy memories!

Oh yeah. Ye old mayapple. Edible but also only at certain times and small quantities or it makes for an unhappy tummy. Ergo, I leave it alone.

For what it’s worth, I recently learned that these are often spread by box turtles. Apparently they enjoy them and it can be a sign they’re around.

May apple. When it has large flower buds that haven’t opened yet, start looking for morel mushrooms.

  6. Timely post. My six year old found some of these in our woods two hours ago and was calling them “mini palm trees. And I couldn’t remember the right name.
