When the dollar crashes in the next 50 yearsβ¦ the biggest wealth will be growing your own food and a supply of chicken eggs and fish.. hope im not to late and you as well π―β€οΈ
We only cleaned ours once a year. We used barrucha, which is wood shavings in central america, we live in Costa Rica, half of the year is completely dry and half of the year is rainy. It would last an entire year. You have to stir it, sometimes top it off, but it would be an entire year before we cleaned it out and replaced. We never had sick chickens. We had healthy, happy chickens laying eggs for 5 years after everybody said they would only lay for 2.
You can harvest the matted turds after a while and make Salt Peter… Was mandatory You let the kings men raid your chicken shit in the dawn of gunpowder…
Im glad it work for you, but chicken coop hygiene is really important. Even more so with some more fragile species. I would still suggest people to watch out for disease, or pest. But its nice seeing alternative way to be found

worms really like it so you can vermicompost it too
Same concept works with fish tanks. A thick substrate reduces the need for water changes
